The Eight Supreme Blessings (Part 2)
Matthew 5:6-8 (NIV)
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Introduction: Blessings in life are given to those who have prepared a vessel to receive them. To those who have no vessel ready, the blessings they receive will work as a disaster. We often hear that someone who has won a lottery ends up in great misfortune. Jesus speaks about the ways people can be blessed.
4. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
character that vindicates us from the accusations of the devil,
and having the qualification to stand justifiably before God
(Ps 119:142; Isa 64:6).
2) People intend to become righteous through their moral training or
religious belief (Gal 3:10; Ro 3:20).
3) All people have sinned.
Without learning how to sin, even children can tell lies (Ro 3:23; 3:10-12).
4) The everlasting, redemptive grace of Jesus. By faith, we gain
a righteous identity as a gift (Eph 2:8-9; 3:12).
5. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
1) A merciful and forgiving heart.
When we have mercy on others, God will show His mercy to us.
◉ We pray to God that He will forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors
(Mt 6:14-15).
2) If you judge others without forgiving them, you will be judged in the
same way.
◉ The woman caught in adultery (Jn 8:11; Lk 6:37).
3) A person living under Mount Sinai and a person living under Mount Calvary
(Mt 7:3; Eph 4:32).
6. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
1) The clean surface of a lake reflects the sky. Nothing is reflected in
a dirty lake (Jer 17:9; Ps 24:3-4).
2) The difference between adults and children in accepting the
Gospel (Mt 11:25).
3) If you repent of your sins and cleanse yourself with the precious blood
of Jesus, you will become pure with the Holy Spirit inside
your heart, and you will see God (Tit 3:5-6; Eph 1:17).
Conclusion: Today we have examined the blessings of those who eagerly seek righteousness, who are merciful, and who are pure in heart. The blessings they gain are the true supreme blessings that cannot be replaced by any other blessings of the world.
